FAQ

Why don't you do a set price for a wedding gig?

No two gigs are the same. Tell me more about what you need, on the Contact page, and I will come up with a price for you.

Can you come play organ in my church for our Sunday Service?

Sorry, no, for the simple reason I'm not an organist!

Did you enjoy doing the grades?

To a point, but by the time I got to grade 6 I felt that doing grades was just too prescriptive and sucked all the fun out of what should essentially be a fun pastime. I had done my grade 1 at age 8 which is probably considered quite a late starter now, but nobody else was doing grades at my age back then. And by the time I moved to Leeds for university, I was definitely more into pop, rock and indie.

What is the oddest ensemble you have ever had to compose for?

In terms of instrumental forces, probably a saxophone quartet piece I wrote about 12 years ago. The more I think about it now, the more I wish I had done a typical 4 part harmony or SATB style piece, instead I probably tried to be a bit too clever and went down a modernist tonal/atonal tightwalk.

How do you even begin writing music for film?

Everyone works differently, but a good place I find to start is to watch it thoroughly several times. Make a list of 'hitpoints' (places where you think the music could cue in and cue out) and then start dividing them into scenes, acts, etc. This process is called spotting. The biggest moments in the film are likely to need correspondingly 'big' music to go with it. And if you're lucky, then the film you're working on may follow a fairly standard structure, which should be easy enough to mimic through the development of the music.

Why aren't you in a band any more?

People's influences and motivations change all the time. What I liked musically 2-3 years ago isn't necessarily what I like now, and that's pretty much the reason why I decided to leave Kill The Witness. As far as I know, everyone is still on good terms and all of us are still involved in music, just in different capacities.

Tim created a new band called Morning Crush based on the final members of KTW and with some new recruits; but the music isn't quite as heavy as KTW.

Tom started teaching drums and percussion, along with developing his singer/songwriter career. Recently he moved from New Malden back to Sawbridgeworth.

Aaron does a lot of studio work and also plays in a band called Cable Street Collective.

Iman plays bass in a rock/funk band called Hawxx.
